The US News Media in Global Context
Some other people feel this way, too.

In the survey, 40% of respondents said that one reason they sometimes don't follow international news is that events in other parts of the world don't affect them. (They could cite as many of the four reasons as they felt applied to them).

However, more people said they sometimes did not follow news from around the world because they lacked the background information to understand it.

For more information about the survey, you can go to the Pew Center's website and read the report, Public's News Habits Little Changed by September 11: Americans Lack Background to Follow International News.
