The US News Media in Global Context
So how can you tell where an article was published?

Often the title of the publication indicates the place where it is published, with more or less specificity:

The Jakarta Post
Canada.com
Africa Today

Library databases often indicate additional place information of a news source, beyond that which may or may not be included in the title. For example, at the top of an article from the Access World News database, you may see the location information included after the news source:

Taipei Times (Taiwan)
Daily Telegraph (Sydney, Australia)
Die Presse, Vienna
BH Radio 1, Sarajevo

Never heard of that place?

If you’re not familiar with the place of publication, you can find out whether it’s a country, city, province, etc., by using the Columbia Gazetteer, available through the UIUC Library. Do a place-name search.
