The Global News VILLAGE is designed to support a team project assignment given in LAS 101: Global Awareness, as part of the
Global Studies Initiative of the College of Liberal Arts and
Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
It was developed and written by Dawn Schmitz, who holds
a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University
of Wisconsin-Madison, a Master's degree in Library and Information
Science from the University of Pittsburgh, and a PhD in Media
Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. This tutorial was
her major project as the Post-Doctoral Fellow for Digital Information
Literacy at the UIUC Library, a position supported jointly by
the UIUC Library and the Council on Library and Information
Resources.
Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe, the Coordinator for Information Literacy
Services and Instruction at UIUC, directed the project. It was
her idea to create a tutorial that would support courses in
the Global Studies Initiative. Lynne Rudasill, librarian for
Political Science and Global Studies at UIUC, came up with the
idea of focusing the tutorial on finding and understanding news
from around the world.
The template for the site was designed by Brandy Agerbeck.
Additional graphics and technical help were provided by Merinda
Hensley.
