The IMLS "Think Globally, Act Globally" China-U.S. Librarian Collaboration Grant Project is seeking 4 presenters for 1 Professional Development Program from October 24-November 11, 2011 in Guiyang, Wuhan and Taiyuan.

The grant project is seeking 4 presenters for 1 Professional Development Program in various locations in China in April or May, 2011. The estimated length of the program is about 2 weeks. (The exact dates and locations are TBD.) The application deadline for this trip is November 1, 2010.

The grant project is seeking 8 presenters for two Professional Development Programs in China in early September and late October 2009. The tentative locations are Xi’an or/and Lanzhou for September, and Nanning for October. The application deadline for this trip is Apr. 20, 2009.



UIUC Library IT Team April Trip to China

To better communicate and establish the information exchange web portal between the U.S. and China, the UIUC library IT team visited a few Chinese libraries on April. These libraries will work closely with the UIUC Library IT team to built the experimental web portal in order to benefit more U.S. libraries for information exchange purpose.

"Think Globally, Act Globally, US-China Librarian Collaboration" held an orientation session on January 23, 2009 during the ALA Midwinter meeting in Denver, Colorado. There were 36 people who attended the meeting. The session covered topics from perceptional idea of building a strong partnership to practical details on logistics and selection process. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library has received a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Program Grant for $499,582 from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

The grant was announced on November 16, 2008, and the agreement was signed by Professor Paula Kaufman and Dr. Zhan Furui at the Members Room
of the Library of Congress. The agreement is one component of the new Partnership for Cultural Exchange established by IMLS and the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China. The Ministry of Culture provides additional funding for the program. [View the Photo Gallery]
