June/July 2009 Program in the U.S
Ten library directors from various Chinese libraries are participanting in the Professional Development Program in the US from June 28 - July 17, 2009.
The grant project held an Opening Ceremony on June 30, 2009 evening at the Levis Faculty Center of the UIUC campus. Shuyong Jiang, project PI, and Paula Kaufman, UIUC University Librarian, and Dr. Joyce Ray, Associate Deputy Director for Library Services of the Institute of Museums and Library Services, and Barbara Wilson, UIUC Campus Vice Provost, and Barbara Ford, Director of the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs, and Xudong Jin, CALA 2009-2010 president, Xiaowei Xiang, Director of the division of American and Oceanian Affairs of Ministry of Culture of China gave speaks on the opening remarks with warm welcomes to the Chinese directors.
The Graduation/Closing Ceremony was hold on July 8, 2009 evening at the Levis Faculty Center. Haipeng Li, former CALA President joined the ceremony and accompanied the team to the ALA Conference at Chicago the next day. Graduation certificate was given to each director by Paula Kaufman. She also expressed the expectation of the coorporation in the near future between the librarians from both countries.
