Library Service Satisfaction Survey 2024 FAQ

What is the Library Service Satisfaction Survey?

The Library supports all majors and formats of learning, including undergraduates, graduates, professionals, and non-degree students, whether they are attending classes in person or online. The Library Service Satisfaction Survey is a web-based survey. The purpose of this survey is to give all students a voice to express their needs, ideas, and experience with respect to library services and resources.

What can the University Library learn from the survey results?

The Library Service Satisfaction Survey focuses on gathering information about how students use library facilities, services (e.g. reference, research consultation, workshops, etc.), and library resources (e.g. books, e-books or e-journals). The survey also invites students to express any comments and suggestions for the Library. The data will help us understand not only what resources are most frequently used but also the ease of access to those resources.

Additionally, this information will inform the librarians on how to improve and promote various library services and resources. Library units that manage student study spaces will use the data to plan operating hours and staffing. Subject librarians and librarians who are responsible for information literacy, instruction, and student success services will use the data to identify most/least used library services or resources amongst different demographic groups (i.e. first-year students, underrepresented minority) or different academic programs.

Who are invited to participate?

50,000 undergraduate and graduate/professional students.

How long does it take to complete the survey?

Less than 5 minutes.

What are the survey dates?

Monday, October 21 — Wednesday, November 13, 2024.

Will survey participants receive compensation or rewards before, during, or after participation?

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Library has 200 tote bags (image shown above) to be given to survey participants on a first-come, first-served basis. A participant can provide name, email, and mailing address if interested. The information provided will not be linked to survey responses, nor will it be shared anywhere.

How is the privacy of participants protected?

Faculty, students, and staff who may see participant information will maintain confidentiality to the extent of federal and state laws and university policies. Personal identifiers will not be published or presented.
