EZproxy

Connect to EZproxy

Patrons who are off campus and not using the VPN will automatically be redirected through the proxy when they request a protected electronic resource.  A user can force accessing a resource through the proxy by adding “proxy2.library.illinois.edu/login?url=” to the beginning of the resource URL.

Description

Most of our vendors only allow access if your machine’s Internet (IP) address is recognized as belonging to the Urbana campus. The proxy server allows people who are off campus to access these restricted resources. We use EZproxy and Shibboleth to authenticate and authorize remote users. Users will be prompted for Active Directory password before accessing a wide variety of online resources licensed or managed by the Library.

When is this service available

The EZproxy Service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Priority level for this service

Maintaining the proxy is a critical priority for Library IT. We make every effort to resolve problems with this service as quickly as possible.

How to report a problem

If off campus access to resources through EZproxy is down , please log a ticket with the IT Help Desk or call the Help Desk at 244-4688. Incoming tickets and calls are reviewed and prioritized as they arrive between 8:30-5:00, Monday through Friday. Tickets or calls coming in after hours are reviewed promptly on the next business day.

If it is outside normal business hours (8:30 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday) and you believe there is a widespread outage, please call 244-4688 and leave a message with the Library IT Help Desk answering service (aka the AITS Service Desk). In an emergency situation the answering service will contact Library IT on-call support staff promptly.

If EZproxy is running but you cannot connect to specific individual information resources, email the Library’s Electronic Resources Management Working Group to report the problem or use the feedback links provided within the Discover public interface.

Problems with individual databases and other specific information resources are dealt with during normal business hours by the Library’s Electronic Resources Management Working Group.
