The Sousa Archives and Center for American Music recently acquired the David M. Nolan Photographs and Personal Papers which consists of original photographic prints, negatives, and press clippings documenting the work of Danville, Illinois photographer David M. Nolan. Many of Nolan’s photographs include images of well-known blues musicians who performed in various Urbana-Champaign venues as well as everyday scenes of Danville and Vermilion County taken between 1978 and 2008. The collection also includes numerous still life, nature, and human model photographs documenting Nolan’s artistic work. The collection will be processed later this fall and made available to researchers. Nolan is pictured here (at right) with Chicago blues legend Mighty Joe Young, on June 21, 1998, just before Young passed away in 1999. Nolan photographed many performances at the Blind Pig at 6 Taylor Street in Champaign, IL, where this image was captured.
