Doug Yeo Lecture, Masterclass, and Performance with Marching Illini For American Music Month 2016

Join Douglas Yeo, retired professor of trombone at Arizona State University and bass trombonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, as he performs on some of the Sousa Archives’ historical trombones and discusses their technological development and use in nineteenth and twentieth-century America orchestras, wind bands, and jazz bands.  His presentation, “America’s Slide and Valve Trombone: A Historical Discussion of Sackbuts, Posaunen, Slip Horns and Much More!” begins at 11:30am on November 4th at the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music, and will be followed with a masterclass for music students starting at 2:30pm at the School of Music Auditorium.   Both the lecture and masterclass are free and open to the general public.  The following day he and many local and regional trombonists will join the University’s Marching Illini in a special halftime show, “Shout Hallelujah Trombones,” during the November 5th football game which will feature exciting performances of Meredith Willson’s 76 Trombones and Henry Fillmore’s Lassus Trombone.  Ticketed admission to the football game and halftime show begins at $27.  For further information contact the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music at 217-333-4577 or email sousa@illinois.edu.
