Illinois Summer Youth Music Camp & U.S. Coast Guard Band Visits

This week has been a busy one for the Sousa Archives with many visits to the Center by the ISYM students throughout the week to play some of our historical music instruments and work with the Sal-Mar Construction. In addition, we had the wonderful U.S. Coast Guard Band visit the Center on Friday afternoon to play many of our tubas, euphoniums, contrabass sarrusophones, trombones, trumpets, and cornets that the ISYM students played earlier this week. Everyone had a great time playing our instruments, and the members of the Coast Guard Band (pictured on the right) played the horns they are holding in their evening performance of Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever to close out their concert held at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Today, the Sousa Archives is much quieter, but when the ISYM students return to campus for the second week of camp we expect the lively sounds of the students to return the musical voices to our wonderful music collections.
