The Sousa Archives and Center for American Music will celebrate UNESCO’s 2017 International Jazz day with more historic film screenings and a music performance in collaboration with Urbana-Champaign’s UNESCO Center for Global Citizenship, The Conservatory of Central Illinois, and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on April 25, 2017. Each short film will have an engaging introduction by some of our communities’ jazz educators and performers and a special performance demonstration by Ronald Romm, University of Illinois Professor of trumpet and founding member of the Canadian Brass, on several of the Sousa Archives’ unique historical instruments to illustrate the early legacy of jazz cornet and trumpet.
