In October, the family of Robert Marwick generously donated photographs he took during his time at the University of Illinois.

Thanksgiving at the University

Written by Leanna Barcelona

As Thanksgiving approaches, the Archives brings a historical perspective to this holiday that is often forgotten during the hustle and bustle of modern life. Over the years, faculty and staff made an effort to provide students with an enjoyable holiday. The University YMCA Cosmopolitan Club also annually hosts a Thanksgiving Dinner. In 1987, the dinner benefited Refugees Assistance in Champaign-Urbana and in 2003 the proceeds assisted the Even Star Program administered by Urbana Adult Education.

“Archives Blitz” at Yellowstone National Park

Written by Anna Trammell

Shortly after I began working at the Student Life and Culture Archives, I was notified that I had been selected, along with four other graduate students from across the country, to work on an archiving project at Yellowstone National Park called “Archives Blitz.” This project was conceived by archivists at Yellowstone who wanted to experiment with the rapid processing of archival materials in order to develop a framework that archivists at other cultural heritage institutions could adapt to fit their own needs.
