Bibliographies of Bibliographies
There are only a few titles that fall into this category. For 40 years the Czechs have produced an annual bibliography of bibliographies as a special section of their national bibliography, but this ceased with the 1996 issue (see below). For later years one must now search the CD-ROM version of the Czech national bibliography using genre keyword “bibliografie” in order to find new bibliographies. You can limit by date using an individual year, but beware of trying to limit by a range of dates, for the results are unreliable. The Slovaks also have their national bibliography available on CD-ROM, but better results occur when you use “bibliografia” as a title word than as a formal descriptor. The paper version of the book section of the Slovak national bibliography has a section under the very first category of “Vseobecnosti” entitled “Bibliografia. Katalogy. Supisy.” One can scan every issue of this periodical for information about bibliographies published in particular years.
Einfuhrung in die tschechoslowackische bibliographie bis 1918.
Czerny, Robert. Baden-Baden: Verlag Valentin Koerner, 1971. 128 p.
U of I Library Call Number: International & Area Studies Slavic — Czech/Slovak Reference 016.015437 C99e
This German-language bibliography covers bibliographies on Czech and Slovak topics published to 1970, but which have contents pertaining to Czech and Slovak publications published before 1918. According to the introduction, the date 1918 was chosen because many bibliographies use it as a beginning or endpoint. It provides citations and annotations for bibliographies of books, periodicals, and other media such as maps and incunabula. Some works that are simply monographs, not bibliographies, but which have significant bibliographies at the end are also included. There are general biographical sources on pages 15-17 and special biographical sources in subject sections. Although some sources cover archival topics, guides to individual archives are not covered. The annotation provides information on the arrangement of the bibliography and also notes if there is any subject organization or index. The entries are arranged by type of resource, e.g. Bibliographies of Periodicals. Within each section the entries are arranged chronologically by the dates of coverage of the sources. There are also indexes for personal names and subjects. Note that at the beginning of some sections the author briefly discusses the state of bibliographic work for the subject area. See the image below for an entry on a bibliography of Czech dissertations.

This annual bibliography of bibliographies was issued as part of the Czech national bibliography. It provides citations for bibliographies published as books or articles that were received on legal deposit by the National Library in Prague for that year. Also included are monographs with bibliographical references at the end. Unfortunately, this source just lists the titles and does not provide annotations. It does, however, have ample cross-references within the Soupis itself and to the other parts of the national bibliography, such as to the main section, Books [Knihy]. Beginning with the 1993 issue, subject headings for each entry and a title index appear. Also beginning in 1993 there is a list of cross-references to other titles on similar topics at the end of each numeric subject section. Bibliographies that are parts of larger works are indicated by the letter (z) at the end of the citation. Pagination for monographs is indicated with the letter (s). The entries are arranged in numeric subject classification and there is a personal name index in every volume. Note the different call numbers for the earlier years when the title appeared as special issues [zvlastni sesity] in the national bibliography. Also listed are 2 special issues, which technically are not part of this serial, but which have the similar titles and were also issued as special issues. They cover the years 1945-1955 and 1951-1955. See the image below for entries that appeared in the 1990 issue.

This Slovak annual bibliography of bibliographies was issued by Matica slovenska. It provides citations for bibliographies published in Slovakia or in Czechoslovakia by a Slovak compiler that appeared in a given year or in the years immediately preceding or following. Also included are monographs with bibliographical references at the end. Unfortunately, this source just lists the titles and does not provide annotations. Beginning in 1976 two issues per year were published, one for individual bibliographies [samostatne] and one for bibliographies that are part of other works [skryte]. Entries are arranged in numeric subject classification. Author index and index of works by originating institution are provided in every issue. The title appears to have ceased with the 1983 issue. See the entry below which appeared in the 1966 issue under the heading of Paper-making.

Bleha, Josef. Praha: Statni knihovna CSR, 1982. 50 p.
U of I Library Call Number: International & Area Studies Slavic — Czech/Slovak Reference 016.0169437 B616b
This work is both a bibliography of bibliographies and an overview of the issues involved in compiling such tools. The initial sections are the discussions of the topic and the final section presents and annotates only major Czech bibliographies of bibliographies. These annotations are grouped by subject such as medicine, agriculture, natural sciences, etc. No specifically Slovak works are included, but many of the Czech works contain Slovak materials. See the entry below for a medical bibliography of bibliographies.

To discover Czech and Slovak bibliographies issued as periodicals or periodicals that have bibliographic sections, this resource can be helpful. It lists and briefly annotates over 1200 such periodicals in all subject areas. For each category the bibliographic periodicals are listed first and the periodicals which just have parts that are bibliographic are listed later (after three XXX’s). These titles also have rubrics that are underlined to explain what kind of bibliographic part appears in the title. For example, some may contains reviews and others may contain lists of recommended titles or lists of recently published titles in a particular field. The entries are arranged by subject, but there is an alphabetical list of titles at the back. See the image below for some entries which appear in the section devoted to archives and museum studies.
