Global Book History at Illinois

Global Book History at Illinois

The Global Book History at Illinois program is an annual initiative to promote the use of the Rare Book & Manuscript Library’s less well-known global collections and the study of bibliography writ large. Each spring a seminar will take place on a specific topic, with an associated scholarly lecture open to the public.

The seminar series will primarily be aimed at graduate students, faculty, independent scholars, and librarians interested in the topic, although interested upper-level undergraduates are also welcome to apply. Affiliation with the University of Illinois is not required. The workshop is free but attendees will be responsible for arranging their own travel and accommodations.

Workshop attendees may also consider applying for the Velde Visiting Scholar Program to further their research.

The inaugural Global Book History at Illinois program will be The Greek Book: Paleography, Transmission, & Critical Editions 450 BCE-1550 CE and take place March 3-7, 2025.
