12 February – 23 February 2018
Curated by Claire Berman & Siobhan McKissic
Birds do it, bees do it, but how do we do it? Sitting down to talk about sex has long been a trope in television and books. These depictions show the discomforts parents, teachers, and friends face while trying to explain a common human experience. But what do we talk about when we talk about sex? While sex is a near universal topic, people’s experiences are inherently personal and the history that goes along with that education is no different.
Let’s Talk About Sex will be on display from February 12 to February 23, 2018, just in time for Valentine’s day. The exhibit explores public sex education and what we talk about when we talk about sex. It shows the evolution of sex education in public schools, and how communities have responded to omissions in public sex education and created materials that addressed their specific educational needs.
