Biology services will move when the Biology Library permanently closes to the public at 5 p.m. on May 13, 2011.
Please join the Biology Library in 101 Burrill Hall on April 26, 2011, 3:30-5:30 p.m. for a farewell party. Remarks will begin at 4:00 p.m. Come enjoy cookies and coffee, register to win a door prize and talk about the “good old days” before the doors close and the transition to a new model for library support for the biological sciences begins.
The focal point for Library services for the biology and the life sciences will shift to the Isaac Funk Family Library . The biology librarian will continue to have an office in Burrill Hall and will also contribute to the service programs at the Funk Family Library. Collections housed in the Biology Library are being consolidated with those held in other Library units, including the Funk Family Library, The Rare Book & Manuscript Library , and the Illinois Natural History Survey Library . Less frequently used materials are being moved to the Oak Street Library Facility, which provides an ideal environment for long-term preservation of Library materials. The transfer of all remaining collections will be completed by August 2011.
The University Library would like to acknowledge the staff and librarians in the Biology Library and Funk Family Library for their hard work throughout this transition, as well as the faculty from the Schools of Integrative Biology (SIB) and Molecular and Cellular Biology (SMCB) who contributed to the planning effort through their active service on the Biology and Life Science Planning and Implementation Teams. SIB and SMCB plan to reconfigure the space vacated by the Library beginning January 2012 to create a shared space supporting undergraduate-centered activities, including advising areas, learning centers, discussion space, and computer labs.
