The Mathematics Library collection is currently located at the Main Library, 1408 West Gregory Drive, due to the renovation of Altgeld Hall.
The Mathematics Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign:
- Has one of the finest subject-specific collections in the United States.
- Has materials in pure and applied mathematics, mathematics of computation, and mathematical statistics.
- Since 1893, this outstanding collection grew from a 15-foot shelf to over 100,000 volumes.
- Has more than 1,000 subscriptions to journals and monographic series, in print or online.
The Mathematics Library staff:
- Strives to provide the best in library services.
- Are happy to answer questions you may have, locate library materials, and help with overdue or lost materials.
- Can assist with reference and research questions, library use instruction, and library orientation tours.
The Mathematics Library will return to its refurbished location in Altgeld Hall, originally known as the Library Building. The finished construction of the building was in 1897, but had four major additions in 1914, 1919, 1926, and 1956. The Senior Memorial Chime was installed in the Library Tower in 1920. Altgeld Hall is one of the finest examples of Richardsonian Romanesque Architecture and is on the National Register of Historic Places since 1970.
