Library Instruction Sessions

MPAL Librarians provide library instruction sessions for courses in dance, music, and theatre. These sessions can be single one-shot sessions or multiple sessions embedded throughout the course. All sessions are tailored to meet the course and students’ needs. Most sessions occur in the regular classroom.

Popular topics include:

  • Developing a research topic and strategy
  • Identifying and evaluating secondary sources
  • Finding and evaluating music materials
  • Searching library resources effectively

Other options include consulting with librarians to embed library and information literacy skills into assignments, or the development of dedicated online research guides. To request a library support for your class, course instructors should contact Kate Lambaria, Music & Performing Arts Librarian, at lambari1@illinois.edu or (217) 300-5898.

Tours

Tours are conducted by staff at the Music & Performing Arts Library and are intended to introduce students to the space, services, and collections available at MPAL. These sessions are also tailored to meet the needs of the course or participants.

To request a tour of MPAL, please contact the Music & Performing Arts Library via email at mpal@library.illinois.edu. Please include your desired date and time in the email.
