New issues and titles in the IDNC: June 2024

The Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections continues to grow! Our team has just added three new titles, as well as additional issues to an existing title, to the IDNC. New titles

Manhattan American (Manhattan, Will County, Ill.)
Dates available: May 15, 1919 – June 26, 2014 (4,529 issues)

The Manhattan American provides coverage of local news from Will County as well as national and global coverage.

The Post-Journal (Loves Park, Winnebago County, Ill.)
Dates available: March 17, 1999 – December 29, 2022 (1,281 issues)

The Post-Journal provides coverage, primarily from the 21st century, of local news and community events from Winnebago County. This joins several other papers from Winnebago County already made available for research in the IDNC.

The Rambler (Jacksonville, Morgan County, Ill.)
Dates available: September 15, 1925 – May 8, 1998 (1,458 issues)

The newest edition to our Collegiate Chronicle collection is the student newspaper of Illinois College, The Rambler, which covers college, student, and faculty news and events. Illinois College, a private liberal arts college founded in 1829, continues to serve a little over 1,000 students.

New issues to existing titles

The Ava Citizen (Ava, Jackson County, Ill.)
Dates available: December 21, 1917 – November 1, 2023 (2,813 issues)

Our latest batch includes additional titles of The Ava Citizen, a newspaper added to the collections this spring. New issues cover November 1993 to November 2003, making the full digital availability from December 21, 1917 to November 1, 2023 (note that there is a gap between June 1973 and October 1993). A special thanks to the folks at Jackson County Historical Society for your work in preserving these newspapers, and to Southern Illinois University Carbondale for facilitating the donation to the IDNC.
