On August 25, 2022, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) announced updated guidelines for public access to federally funded research. By the end of 2025, federal agencies must comply with the new guidelines, which expands the prior guidance by eliminating embargo periods for public access to federally funded research. Other updates include the expansion of the guidance to cover all federal agencies, and options for agencies to apply public access requirements to scholarly genres beyond journal articles.

HELIOS provided initial public analysis of this guidance on August 30, and the OSTP has committed to engagement with HELIOS members to address related questions.
