Schedule a Research Consultation with the Global Studies Librarian

The International and Area Studies Library at the University of Illinois offers personalized reference and research consultations to support students and faculty engaged in global studies. Whether you are starting a new research project, exploring complex international topics, or seeking specialized resources, our Global Studies Librarian, Steve Witt, is here to help you navigate the wealth of information available.

For Students

Are you working on a research paper, thesis, or group project related to global studies? A consultation with the Global Studies Librarian can help you refine your topic, identify and access relevant resources, and develop effective research strategies. From navigating library databases to incorporating multilingual sources and grey literature into your work, the librarian can provide guidance tailored to your specific needs.

Students at all levels are encouraged to schedule a consultation, whether you’re taking your first steps in international research or tackling an advanced, interdisciplinary project. Consultations can also include instruction on using citation management tools like Zotero, understanding academic integrity, and leveraging digital tools for data analysis and visualization.

For Faculty

Faculty members can schedule consultations to enhance their teaching, research, and grant-writing efforts. Whether you need assistance locating specialized resources, developing course-integrated library instruction sessions, or accessing international data and publications, the Global Studies Librarian is a valuable partner in advancing your scholarly and teaching goals. Faculty consultations can also focus on supporting interdisciplinary research methods, integrating library resources into syllabi, or addressing ethical and legal considerations in global studies research.

Additionally, the Global Studies Librarian is available to collaborate on identifying grant opportunities, conducting literature reviews for proposals, and providing tailored support for faculty working with international collaborators or conducting research abroad.
