Math Library – Graduate Hourly - General Information

Job Description:

The Mathematics Library is seeking a graduate student proficient in both German and English for a translation project.

Project Details:

The selected candidate will review and edit the English translation of the M. Schilling catalog for Mathematical Models, originally published in early 20th-century German. This catalog has been preliminarily translated into English using Generative AI. The project involves refining this translation to accurately describe mathematical models housed in Altgeld Hall.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current graduate student in the Department of Mathematics; Ph.D. student preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in both written English and German required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and familiar with writing LaTeX within it.
  • Specialization in algebraic geometry or differential geometry is desirable.

Position Details:

  • This is a graduate hourly position, up to 40 hours, scheduled for winter 2024.
  • Please note that international students currently employed by the Department of Mathematics are permitted to work extra hours during the break, beyond the usual 20-hour limit.
