Position Title: Special Collections Mold Remediation Undergrad Hourly
Unit: Preservation
Time and Compensation: 10 hours/week, $16.50/hour
Primary Position Function/Summary:
This position supports the Conservation Unit through assistance with mold remediation of special collections, including freezing, vacuuming, and surface cleaning of special collections materials.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Minor repair of library materials
- Construction of custom enclosures
- Tracking items for documentation and treatment in unit-established databases
- Managing the mold remediation space (dirty room)
- Keeping statistics
- Preparing and organizing stocks of lab supplies by trimming cutting or re-formatting
Minor Duties May Include:
- General Lab Maintenance and Support (make paste, cleaning tools, etc)
- Exhibit Support & Preparation, as needed
- Disaster Response assistance, as needed
- Participation in Outreach and Engagement Opportunities, as needed
Position Requirements and Qualifications
Education
Required: High School Degree
Preferred:
Experience
Required: None; this is an entry level position
Preferred: Experience or serious interest in library preservation, conservation, or digitization experience; experience working with databases; experience with workflow management.
Knowledge Requirements:
Required: None
Preferred: excellent hand skills and attention to detail; knowledge of book and paper structure or repair; knowledge of safe handling techniques for library materials; knowledge of general lab safety
