The Library Society of China (LSC), established in 1979, consists of
staff members from libraries and relevant trading and information
science organizations. It is a national non-governmental, non-profit,
academic organization. The predecessor of the Library Society of China
was the Chinese Library Association, which was established in 1925, and
one of the founding members of International Federation of Library
Associations (IFLA) in 1927. The mission of the Society is to guide the
scientific management of the library and to advance the development of
information science and technology. It is an important organization
dedicated to the improvement of libraries and library services in
China. It is a member of the China Association for Science and
Technology, and is a global academic organization for the study of
library science, a level consultative body of UNESCO and a National
Association Member of the IFLA.
