The Ricker Library of Architecture and Art, located in Room 208 on the 2nd floor of the Architecture Building, holds distinguished collections in architecture, art, & design. Ricker supports the Schools of Architecture and Art & Design, as well as the Krannert Art Museum and the Siebel Center for Design. The ADA entrance to the building is on the north side going directly into the basement of the building; the elevator is in the east corridor.

The Central Access Services Department of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library handles the circulation and maintenance of the Main Stacks collection. The History, Philosophy, and Newspaper Library (HPNL), located in room 246 Main Library, serves students and researchers in the fields of history, philosophy, religious studies, African American studies, and Jewish studies, as well as any researcher using historical newspapers as a primary source. The HPNL includes the African American Research Center and the Illinois Newspaper Project.

About the International and Area Studies Library

The International and Area Studies Library (IASL) coordinates patron and research focused services while building nationally prominent collections of materials from outside of the United States. The library’s faculty, services, and collections focus on African Studies; East Asian Studies; European Union Studies; Global Studies; Latin American and Caribbean Studies; Middle East and North African Studies; Russian East European, and Eurasian Studies; and South Asian Studies. The combined expertise and research collections of the IASL constitutes one of the campus’ gateways to information and scholarship related to area, international, and global studies, connecting students and scholars to the knowledge crucial to developing global competencies through the study of distinct nations and regions, as well as transnational issues and global concerns.

The Literatures and Languages Library, located in rooms 200 and 225 Main Library, covers the literatures and languages of North America and Western Europe from Classical Antiquity to the present as well as Classical studies, cinema studies, English worldwide, linguistics and translation studies. The unit serves the Department of English, Department of Theatre, School of Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics, and the Department of Media and Cinema Studies.

The Main Library, located at 1408 W. Gregory Drive, includes a number of specialized libraries as well as the Main Stacks, which house over 5 million items of the Library’s collection. The entrance for the Main Stacks is located on the second floor across from the Shebik Family Reading Room, which provides an attractive quiet study space and houses the Literatures and Languages Library. You can find the Information Desk on the first floor at the junction of the two hallways.

The Mathematics Library Office Hours at GELIC are Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

The Mathematics Library collection is temporarily located at Main Library, 1 East Stacks, 1408 W. Gregory Dr., Urbana, IL 61801 until the completion of the renovation to Altgeld Hall.

The Mathematics Library supports the Mathematics and Statistics Departments, providing research-level materials in all areas of pure mathematics and select areas of applied mathematics and statistics.

Our Orange Room study space on the first floor of the Main Library provides a vibrant and lively center of activity for students including an embedded writing center, a variety of group and individual work spaces, and access to multiple printers and items from the Library’s loanable technology program.
